Job Overview
This role is pivotal in overseeing all FSQR initiatives and programs at the facility level. Acting as the management representative for all relevant areas within Quality and Food Safety, the position ensures customer satisfaction, adherence to corporate and local/state/federal legal and regulatory standards, and the continuous enhancement of our systems, processes, and culture. The role guarantees the safety, integrity, legality, quality, and authenticity of all produced goods.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise a team of FSQR Technicians across various shifts, including conducting annual evaluations and facilitating career development. Direct the site in all Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory activities related to human food, pharmaceuticals, animal feed, water conditioning, and industrial-grade products, as applicable. In U.S. or Canadian facilities shipping to the U.S., serve as the Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) and ensure compliance with all requirements for PCs/CCPs/oPRPs under FSMA and/or SFCR. Ensure adherence to specifications, customer expectations, and regulatory mandates at the site. Oversee the consumer and/or customer complaint investigation process, including conducting root cause analyses and implementing corrective action plans, which may involve manufacturing processes and/or product specifications. Spearhead the site’s initiatives for food safety and quality, including verifying the effectiveness of corrective action plans. Lead all quality and food safety audits, including internal, third-party, and regulatory inspections, and manage the resolution of any Non-Conformances. Determine the annual FSQR Program and Food Safety training requirements for all personnel at the site. Foster a culture of Quality and Food Safety throughout the facility. Manage the disposition of all products placed on hold due to incidents, out-of-specification test results, or slow-moving inventory. Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition Manager to recruit and retain FSQR personnel at the site. Act as the Food Safety Program Team Leader, ensuring the Food Safety Plan is established, implemented, and maintained, with annual reviews or updates as necessary. Oversee the Food Safety and Quality functions related to applicable product safety and environmental monitoring programs. Maintain and update the site mock recall program and conduct traceability exercises as required. Manage the FS&Q Management System for the site, including the development, maintenance, and implementation of all site-level policies, procedures, and work instructions affecting product quality and/or food safety. Supervise quality laboratory testing and review/approve results. Participate in the Management of Change (MOC) process at the site. Conduct regular assessments of the facility's Pre-requisite Programs (PRPs), GMP Compliance, and Sanitation/Housekeeping Compliance. Serve as a member of top site management to lead and guide the facility.Qualifications and Skills
A Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific field is required. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a food, feed, or USP manufacturing FSQR laboratory. Strong understanding of International Safety Protocol (ISP) and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), as well as FDA FSMA, HACCP Programs, and relevant regulatory requirements. Knowledge of USP regulations is preferred, as applicable. PCQI certification in Human and/or Animal Feed is advantageous. Highly self-motivated with a high energy level, capable of working independently and collaboratively, demonstrating initiative, and driving positive changes in systems, processes, and culture. Ability to comprehend and adhere to all company policies and procedures, as well as applicable local/state/federal regulations. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage conflict in a high-pressure environment. Capability to work both independently and as part of a team. Proficient in collaborating with cross-functional teams and performing successfully under pressure in a fast-paced and challenging environment. Strong communication skills, with the ability to present information effectively to all levels within the Morton Salt organization, as well as to internal and external stakeholders, government authorities, auditors, and customers, often in urgent and high-pressure situations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities. Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, and move throughout the facility. Work performed in a plant environment.
