Correctional Health Services (CHS) is a specialized program dedicated to providing healthcare for individuals in correctional facilities across the province. Key Responsibilities

  • Build therapeutic relationships with clients, assessing their strengths and needs across various dimensions including physical, psychological, and social aspects.
  • Contribute to the creation and adjustment of personalized care plans, identifying client priorities and suggesting necessary revisions.
  • Carry out nursing tasks such as monitoring vital signs and conducting tests, while effectively communicating patient information to the nursing team.
  • Observe and evaluate client progress in relation to expected outcomes, reporting any unexpected changes to the supervising nurse.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records in both digital and paper formats, adhering to established protocols for documentation.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Practical Nursing program, with at least one year of experience in secure healthcare settings or with offenders.
  • Current full licensure with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Certification in Occupational First Aid Level 2 (or Level 3 for specific positions).

Skills and Competencies

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact positively with diverse individuals.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in operating relevant medical equipment.
  • Demonstrated competence in CPR techniques.
  • Commitment to understanding and promoting Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racism.
