Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada Government of Nunavut Full time

This employment opportunity is open to all applicants.

The Government of Nunavut has been recognized as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers and is committed to enhancing the quality of life for future generations. As a government entity, we are dedicated to fostering a governance model that integrates Inuit societal values, promotes the use of the Inuktut language, and collaborates with partners to fulfill the promise of Nunavut.

The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) is an agency of the Government of Nunavut, focused on addressing the housing needs of one of Canada's fastest-growing populations. NHC's mission is to develop, coordinate, and manage housing programs that ensure equitable access to a variety of affordable housing options for families and individuals in Nunavut. Recently, NHC initiated The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, a collaborative effort aimed at delivering 3,000 new housing units by 2030.

Position Overview: Reporting directly to the Corporate Comptroller, the Manager of Financial Reporting and Advisory Services is pivotal in ensuring the validity, integrity, and accuracy of the financial statements for the Nunavut Housing Corporation, along with other specific financial reports. This role includes leading the preparation and coordination of the annual financial audit conducted by the Auditor General of Canada, as well as overseeing the implementation of recommendations from the audit report. Additionally, the Manager will supervise financial reporting for 25 Local Housing Authorities throughout Nunavut.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervising direct reports and providing training and mentorship to departmental staff;
  • Overseeing the preparation of interim, special, and specific financial reports for third-party funding;
  • Delivering advisory services and managing special projects.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess a recognized Canadian accounting designation (CPA - CGA, CMA, or CA) and an undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, or Economics. A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in leading or participating in the year-end financial reporting process, financial management information systems, and liaising with external and internal auditors is required, including at least one year of progressive managerial experience.

We encourage applicants with equivalent combinations of education and experience to apply. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages (Inuktut, English, and French) is considered an asset, as is knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, and experience in a northern cross-cultural environment.

Additional Information: An eligibility list may be established to fill current and future vacancies across the Nunavut Housing Corporation in various communities.

Note: The Government of Nunavut is committed to creating a representative workforce; therefore, priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit who self-identify as being enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement in accordance with the Priority Hiring Policy.
