The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a full scope family physician to join their family practice network team in the Cape Breton South region. This opportunity offers a chance to work with a team of physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, and dieticians in a newly constructed collaborative practice in the heart of the Town of Port Hawkesbury.
This region serves the healthcare needs of the residents of communities in Richmond County and the southern portion of Inverness County. Located in Evanston, the facility has 15 medicine beds and five restorative care beds that provide inpatient, outpatient, and satellite care. The site also houses a number of other interdisciplinary services, including:
- Community-based rehabilitation centre
- Diabetes education
- Diagnostic imaging
- Dietitian
- Emergency department
- Foot care clinic
- Hemodialysis
- Laboratory services
- Mental health and addictions services
- Occupational therapy
- Palliative care
- Physiotherapy
- Social work
The facility also has a number of visiting specialists:
- Cardiology
- Nephrology
- Ophthalmology
- Palliative care
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing full scope family physician services to patients within the eastern zone and participating in call. They will be responsible to the zone department head of family practice for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice, and will operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
In addition to office work, the successful candidate has the option to provide part-time coverage in the following areas:
- Community emergency medicine (level 4 ED)
- Inpatient coverage (based on a Community Hospital Inpatient Program arrangement)
- Nursing home
Part-time or full-time hours are available, with flexible scheduling.
QualificationsTo be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) and certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is also required. Emergency medicine experience is considered an asset, and ATLS, ACLS, PALS, and advanced Airway training are required.
