Position Overview
The Senior School English Department is on the lookout for a passionate and dynamic English educator who has a deep appreciation for literature, writing, and creative expression. The successful candidate will teach a variety of senior-level English courses.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's or Master's Degree specializing in English Language Arts, Literature, or Creative Writing.
- Possession of a valid BC teaching certificate or eligibility for one.
- Familiarity with the BC Curriculum and experience in independent schools is advantageous.
- Experience in teaching English at the secondary or post-secondary level.
- Experience working with English Language Learners is a plus.
- Experience with Advanced Placement English Language or Literature courses is beneficial.
- Strong communication skills in diverse settings.
- Experience in cross-curricular planning and assessment.
- Proficiency in using Google Classroom and other educational technologies.
- A growth mindset with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
- Demonstrated adaptability to meet varied learner needs and differentiate instruction.
- Evidence of innovative teaching practices and effective assessment methods.
- Commitment to collaboration with a team of dedicated educators.
- Dedication to pastoral care and delivering high-quality education through a holistic approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instructing English courses at junior (Grades 9/10) and/or senior levels (Grades 11/12).
- Supporting English Language Learners in enhancing their language skills.
- Collaborating across departments on curriculum development, instruction, and assessment.
- Maintaining professional communication with students, faculty, and parents.
- Committing to a standards-based assessment model in teaching.
- Conducting ongoing assessments of student learning to provide constructive feedback.
- Advocating for students by liaising with faculty, parents, and administration.
- Engaging in continuous professional development and reflective practice.
- Serving as a Homeroom Advisor for a group of students.
- Contributing to a positive homeroom environment through collaborative pastoral care.
- Participating in the extracurricular activities of the school.
