Job Summary and Responsibilities

As an Equipment Operator, you'll be responsible for operating and maintaining heavy, motorized equipment to unload and load ferrous materials in a safe and efficient manner. You'll work closely with the scale operator and office staff to minimize traffic congestion and ensure a smooth flow of materials in and out of the yard.

  • Utilize your mechanical skills to troubleshoot and perform light mechanical repairs, identifying any major repairs that require attention.
  • Load and unload various ferrous and non-ferrous metals with precision and accuracy.
  • Adhere to all company safety rules and policies, prioritizing the well-being of yourself and your colleagues.
  • Operate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner, minimizing the risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life.
  • Report any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage promptly and accurately.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral communication skills, good judgment, and reliability in all aspects of your work.
  • Operate equipment in tight spaces with ease and precision.
  • Be punctual and available to work overtime on Saturdays as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of recent experience in an operator position.
  • Ability to work in various temperatures.
  • Meet the physical demands of the position, including standing, walking, sitting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, and moderate to heavy lifting and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds throughout the day.
  • Will to work in variable weather conditions, including hot, dry summer conditions and cold, harsh winter conditions.
