Unit Clerk, Ambulatory Care Chemo Unit Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Unit Clerk to join our Ambulatory Care Chemo Unit team at BC Cancer. As a Unit Clerk, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the unit, providing exceptional patient care, and supporting our healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe and process clinician orders, preparing requisitions for tests or services, and communicating with patients and healthcare teams.
- Coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients, preparing and communicating related instructions, and gathering patient information for medical appointments.
- Perform receptionist duties, greeting and registering patients, answering phone calls, and responding to inquiries.
- Participate in the onboarding and orientation of staff, demonstrating work procedures, and supporting student clinical practicums.
Requirements
- Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program, plus one year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, and ability to keyboard 40 wpm.
- Ability to organize work, operate related equipment, and utilize a variety of computer software applications.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada, as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
- Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities, and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports.
