POSITION: OUTREACH WORKER
HOUR OF WORK: FULL-TIME, PERMANENT (35 HRS/WEEK)
REPORTS TO: WELLNESS DIRECTOR
POSITION SUMMARY: We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Outreach Worker to become a vital part of our Wellness team. In this role, you will be instrumental in assisting and uplifting our community members by building meaningful connections, delivering vital services, and enhancing overall wellness. Your responsibilities will include engaging with individuals, families, and groups to address their distinct needs and contribute positively to community life.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Community Engagement: Foster strong, trusting relationships with community members, including elders, families, youth, and individuals, to gain insight into their needs, concerns, and aspirations.
- Crisis Intervention: Offer immediate support and assistance during crises or emergencies, such as mental health challenges, family conflicts, or natural disasters, by connecting individuals with the necessary services and resources.
- Support Services: Assist community members by identifying and facilitating access to available resources, government programs, and social services that can help meet their specific needs, including healthcare, education, housing, and employment opportunities.
- Cultural Preservation: Uphold and promote the cultural values, traditions, and heritage of the First Nation community, ensuring that outreach efforts are culturally sensitive and aligned with community values.
- Advocacy: Act as an advocate for community members, helping them navigate bureaucratic systems, address systemic challenges, and facilitate access to services and resources.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with other community organizations, government agencies, and service providers to coordinate and enhance outreach efforts, ensuring a comprehensive support network for the community.
- Education and Awareness: Conduct outreach initiatives to raise awareness about critical issues affecting the community, such as wellness programs and social justice matters.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience in community outreach, social work, or a related field.
- Strong cultural competency and understanding of Tsawout traditions, history, and contemporary issues.
- Empathy, compassion, and excellent communication skills to establish trust and rapport with community members from diverse backgrounds and age groups.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, demonstrating strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of available social services, government programs, and resources relevant to the Tsawout community.
- Flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs and priorities within the community.
- Strong organizational skills and effective time management abilities.
- A Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check is a condition of employment.
- May represent Tsawout First Nation externally in a manner that enhances Tsawout First Nation's credibility and reputation.
