Our esteemed client, a prominent player in the Oil & Gas sector, is in search of a Site Operations Engineer to enhance their operational capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver on-site process engineering expertise to support Operations and various stakeholders within both Thermal and Conventional Heavy Oil sectors.
  • Utilize engineering principles and analytical skills to address safety, environmental, and integrity challenges, while optimizing facility performance and identifying opportunities for operational expenditure reduction.

Core Duties:

  • Collaborate with Operations to:
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational process and equipment challenges, providing recommendations and innovative solutions.
  • Validate process modifications, ensuring functional integrity through the development and updating of process simulation models and engineering calculations.
  • Identify and address facility bottlenecks and process enhancement opportunities, framing solutions for implementation.
  • Address safety, environmental, and integrity issues by scoping and framing appropriate resolutions.
  • Assist in the intake process for engineering investigations and management of change requests.
  • Conduct process release calculations to support incident investigations related to process safety events.
  • Provide process engineering support for operational risk assessments, project evaluations, and related safety analyses.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor facility Safe Operating Limits.
  • Facilitate integrated production planning by recognizing and managing facility constraints.
  • Support facility downtime by assessing production impacts, conducting risk assessments, and executing necessary engineering calculations.
  • Engage in performance monitoring of facility processes and equipment, collaborating to enhance business performance and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct process engineering investigations and manage small-scale engineering changes.
  • Work with Facilities Engineering to fulfill process engineering requirements for initial scoping and execution of investigations and modifications.
  • Coordinate process trials, including chemical trials and optimization efforts.
  • Collaborate with capital project teams to ensure alignment with operational conditions during scoping.
  • Contribute to the Enhanced Production Audit Program through various engineering assessments and audits.
  • Gather and analyze data to support business objectives.
  • Ensure all engineering work aligns with the professional practice management plan.
  • Promote continuous improvement of business processes and documentation.

Required Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of upstream processes and equipment.
  • Solid grasp of engineering principles coupled with exceptional analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to achieve shared objectives.
  • Capable of managing and prioritizing multiple demands in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Effective listening skills and the ability to appreciate diverse perspectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGS.
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field with a focus on process engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in operational process engineering roles is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in process engineering design is beneficial.
  • Proficient in process simulation software (e.g., HYSYS, Unisim).
  • Skilled in process calculations including control valve sizing, piping hydraulics, and vessel sizing.
