PhD Opportunity in Neurobiology Research at Université Laval

Position Overview: The Canadian Association for Neuroscience is offering a doctoral student position in the Sephton laboratory at Université Laval. This role focuses on investigating the underlying mechanisms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a severe neurodegenerative condition, and aims to develop targeted therapeutic strategies based on research findings.
Project Focus:The research project will explore the metabolic dysregulation associated with ALS, particularly the shift in energy utilization from glucose to lipids within the central nervous system. This metabolic imbalance is a critical early indicator of ALS, leading to significant energy deficits. The successful candidate will utilize various methodologies, including animal models and cell culture techniques, to assess how this metabolic transition affects disease progression.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct experiments utilizing techniques such as immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, and western blotting.
- Analyze data and interpret results to understand lipid metabolism in ALS.
- Collaborate with team members to foster a productive research environment.
- Communicate findings effectively within the research community.
- A Master's degree in Neuroscience or a related discipline, demonstrating research proficiency.
- Experience with primary cell culture, animal handling, and advanced imaging techniques.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative research atmosphere.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
