We are seeking a skilled Video Journalist to join our team at CBC/Radio-Canada. As a Video Journalist, you will be responsible for researching, gathering, and packaging content for our digital, television, streaming, and social media platforms.
Key Responsibilities:- Write engaging content for various platforms, including digital, social media, radio, and television.
- Gather high-quality video, photographs, and audio on scene in a variety of situations.
- Monitor developing news through various sources and arrange and conduct interviews.
- Develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of key sources.
- Edit material for use on all platforms.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest social media tools to find contacts and story ideas.
- Decide which elements to include in a story, their order, length, and sequence, as well as the method of transition from one element to another.
- Prepare, align, set up, and operate various camera equipment, ensuring optimal video, audio, and technical quality under prevailing conditions.
- Light the subject or scene and compose program visual material using a hand-held camera.
- Edit recorded items on appropriate/available editing systems.
- Prepare and write scripts, continuity, and headlines.
- Report the story, either on camera or in voice-over form.
- Have a valid B.C. driver's license and drive a motor vehicle in the performance of the job.
- Perform other tasks as assigned or required, such as attending daily story meetings and contributing story ideas, performing final edits, operating other studio equipment, and maintaining a basic library of stock footage and archival material.
- Proven skills in shooting and editing video to tell compelling stories.
- Strong presentation style and a good voice for broadcast.
- A minimum of five years of experience in broadcast journalism.
- Demonstrated understanding of the key issues facing Metro Vancouver and British Columbia.
- Deep understanding of the best practices for social media tools.
- Track record of breaking news and quick turnarounds.
- Excellent critical thinking skills.
- Proven commitment to delivering information on digital platforms.
- Proven ability to generate compelling story ideas and knowledgeable contacts.
- Proven conversational writing style.
- Ability to travel.
- Experience working independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to work flexible hours in a high-pressure, tight deadline environment, often in unexpected overtime situations.
- Ability to respond to breaking news situations quickly and accurately.
- Deep understanding of multi-platform coverage.
- Demonstrated range of visual storytelling techniques that extend beyond the traditional television pack.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
