Georgian College is in search of a Licensed Occupational Therapist to serve as an Independent Contractor.
The selected candidate will operate within a clinical environment, which may include long-term care facilities, hospitals, or the college's pediatric clinic.
The Independent Contractor will assume the role of the primary care provider, delivering occupational therapy services as needed. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, establishing goals and recommendations, and planning and executing patient-centered, goal-oriented treatment programs, utilizing the support of student Occupational Therapist Assistants.
Collaboration within a team setting is essential, as the Independent Contractor will delegate treatment tasks to both Occupational Therapist Assistants and student Occupational Therapist Assistants. The Occupational Therapist will also provide mentorship and guidance to students in developing their OTA competencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops and advises on occupational therapy treatment plans for Occupational Therapist Assistants (OTA) and OTA students based on the current caseload within a clinical environment.
- In compliance with the standards set by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO), the Occupational Therapist will manage clinical documentation and maintain records according to COTO regulations.
- Selects suitable clients for occupational therapy services that will enhance OTA student clinical learning outcomes.
- Acts as the primary care provider, delivering occupational therapy services as appropriate, which includes obtaining patient consent, assessing needs, and formulating treatment plans while ensuring adherence to safe and ethical practices.
- Implements clinical placement expectations within the scope of practice.
- Maintains effective and collaborative relationships with healthcare team members, students, clients, their families, medical staff, and college personnel.
- Facilitates orientation for students regarding the clinical placement site and relevant Policies & Procedures.
- Contributes to the development of OTA clinical skills and competencies by providing regular feedback and skill remediation as necessary.
- Participates in onboarding, midterm, and final placement meetings.
- Endorses the successful completion of fieldwork placements, which includes a minimum of 150 clinical hours for each student.
Qualifications:
- Registered Occupational Therapist with current registration and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
- Recent clinical experience in a healthcare setting, preferably with geriatric or pediatric populations.
- Certification in Teaching and Training Adults and/or experience in an educational or training role.
- Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience in teaching students within a clinical context is an asset.
The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of Professional Liability Insurance and registration in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario. A vulnerable sector police check and proof of immunization for COVID-19 are also necessary. This independent contractor position will remain open until filled.
