CLINICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
Part-Time Position (0.4 EFT)
Permanent Role
Compensation: $22.109 to $26.401 based on qualifications
Under the supervision of the Director of Primary Care, the Clinical Laboratory Technician is tasked with executing phlebotomy procedures, conducting laboratory functions, providing general clinical assistance, and supporting healthcare professionals during medical interventions, adhering to established guidelines.
This part-time role encompasses 31 hours bi-weekly, with scheduled work hours between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Regular working days will be on Thursdays and Fridays.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver clinical support services to the Primary Care team, ensuring consistent procedures and high-quality service to clients.
Program Responsibilities
- Manage medical laboratory inventory, including the ordering and stocking of necessary supplies.
- Oversee the maintenance and organization of examination rooms.
- Ensure the cleaning and sterilization of all instruments utilized in medical procedures, along with the safe disposal of biomedical waste and sharps.
Laboratory Responsibilities
- Conduct phlebotomy, processing, preparation, and transportation of specimens to testing facilities.
- Perform routine and some specialized tests as directed by healthcare professionals.
- Maintain quality control of specimen samples.
- Operate standard and specialized laboratory equipment.
- Document and maintain information in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
Qualifications
- Completion of a diploma program in medical laboratory assistance or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with laboratory results management, Electronic Medical Records, and medical charting systems.
- Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft applications.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment while maintaining attention to detail and organizational skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Client-centered approach when engaging with the community and clients.
- Proficient in computer usage, including Word and Excel; experience with electronic medical records is advantageous.
- Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Experience working with individuals who use drugs and/or in harm reduction programs, including lived experience.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
