Job Title: Bus Operations Supervisor

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Bus Operations Supervisor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliable provision of bus service, with a focus on efficiency, safety, and customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and manage a team of bus drivers to ensure efficient and safe operation of bus services.
  • Identify and address performance issues, collaborating with the Superintendent and/or Manager and ATU representatives as needed.
  • Review and respond to passenger-related service delivery issues.
  • Maintain accurate data on ridership, route incidents, sales, and other pertinent measures.
  • Lead the implementation of operational and route functions, assigning buses to pre-selected runs and recommending changes due to passenger traffic impacts.
  • Conduct regular operational and performance audits.
  • Research and recommend operational improvements.
  • Adjust service in response to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Lead the resolution of passenger complaints or disputes within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Act as a front-line spokesperson to the public, providing current and relevant information or escalating concerns as needed.
  • Coordinate with municipalities for short and long-term route and service changes.
  • Generate recommendations in response to emerging passenger needs, new bus stops, and shelters.
  • Initiate improvements to transit services and operational efficiency by facilitating dialogue and information-sharing, as well as motivating employees to exceed passenger expectations.
  • Champion change and advocate for the implementation of Metrolinx/GO strategies and business plans.
  • Complete and submit accurate records for personnel regarding compensation payout.
  • Assess service continuously for operational efficiencies.
  • Collect outstanding revenues and manage reconciliation of driver accounts.
  • Supervise an assigned group of bus drivers on a day-to-day basis, including coaching, mentoring, and guiding to motivate excellent performance.
  • Assess training or other performance development needs and make recommendations for provision.
  • Demonstrate leadership and core competencies at a high level of development and be an exemplary model of living the corporate Values and Code of Ethics.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma or a combination of training and experience deemed equivalent for this role.
  • Demonstrated years of experience driving highway coaches and/or city transit buses in an urban centre.
  • Supervisory or team lead experience in a unionized environment, including scheduling crews and implementing route adjustments/changes.
  • Experience maintaining excellent labour relations and managing through disputes is an asset.
  • A valid Ontario Class "C" drivers' license, with a "Z" endorsement and an acceptable (safe) driving record for the past 5 years.
