About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Counsellor to join our team at Fraser Health Authority. As a Clinical Counsellor, you will provide consultation, assessment, and short-term case management services to individuals and families affected by serious and persistent mental disorders and/or substance misuse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive clinical counselling and psychotherapy to clients affected by mental illness and/or addictions, chronic disease, or complex cases.
  • Assess client needs and available services, and contribute to the shared care plan with the client's input.
  • Facilitate clients' utilization of appropriate community services and rehabilitative programs.
  • Screen referrals from the interdisciplinary team, gather background information, and determine service priorities.
  • Provide short-term brief interventions, follow-up, monitor, and evaluate treatment outcomes.
  • Deliver group therapy and education sessions to clients and their families.
  • Identify gaps and problems with service and recommend solutions to enhance the coordinated mental health care system.
  • Provide education on mental health issues to the interdisciplinary shared care team and other stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Masters in Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline from an accredited educational institution.
  • Two years of recent related experience in community and/or hospital settings providing programs for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Comprehensive clinical counselling and therapy skills, including crisis counselling.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills in working with the seriously mentally ill.
  • Thorough knowledge of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as a therapeutic modality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work on interdisciplinary teams and deal with others effectively.
