Position Overview: The Senior Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Evergreen Expert at our Drilling Support Center in Nisku, Alberta, is responsible for the inspection, analysis, testing, replacement, measurement, repair, adjustment, and maintenance of various rig components, including engines, machinery, and specialized equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize mechanical skills to troubleshoot and repair a variety of systems, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components.
- Ensure all tools and testing equipment are in optimal condition before commencing repair tasks and are accounted for post-repair.
- Oversee equipment calibration and the application of standardized petroleum products across the fleet.
- Conduct repairs and tests in strict adherence to manufacturer service manuals and guidelines.
- Investigate equipment failures to identify procedural factors contributing to issues.
- Examine components such as hoses, belts, and fuel systems for wear and perform preventative maintenance.
- Track inspections and operating hours to anticipate maintenance needs.
- Compile lists of parts for replacement based on manufacturer specifications.
- Present estimates for labor and parts to management for approval.
- Document inspections, test outcomes, repairs performed, and parts replaced for accurate billing and record-keeping.
- Execute plumbing modifications and installations for air, hydraulics, cooling, and fuel systems.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for diesel engines using electronic diagnostic tools.
- Proficient in diagnosing and repairing related mechanical and electrical systems.
- Effective analytical abilities to quickly identify problems.
- High proficiency in interpreting electrical diagrams and OEM service manuals.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Commitment to safety practices in all procedures.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and repair methods.
- Strong leadership, planning, and delegation skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Willingness to work extended periods in field settings.
Educational Requirements: Candidates must possess certification as a Journeyman or equivalent in Heavy Duty Mechanics, Auto Mechanics, or Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanics in Alberta.
Experience Requirements: A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in managing repairs and overhauls of mechanical components within the drilling sector is required. Familiarity with bi-fuel systems is preferred, though additional training may be provided.
