About this Role

This is a key position within the Operations Team that will serve as a Supplier Quality Engineer, responsible for ensuring that all products delivered from a supplier, packaging, and other operational processes are in compliance with manufacturing specifications and company standards.

This is a wide-ranging role to achieve and maintain high levels of supplier quality.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Drive supplier quality performance, including new product development and product quality improvement;
  • Ensure all supplier non-conformances are identified and controlled. Support their investigation to ensure timely closure/effectiveness;
  • Oversee supplier quality function and establish quality control objectives;
  • Promote and enhance a safety-first culture;
  • Perform quality system audits;
  • Maintain supplier quality records;
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers;
  • Promote initiatives to improve quality;
  • Provide support to Supply Chain in the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, or items from a quality standpoint. This can include assisting with issue resolution, surveys, risk assessments, and evaluation of capacities and capabilities;
  • Review supplier documentation, such as certifications, end item data packages, etc. to ensure compliance to Powersmiths requirements;
  • Work with design engineers to capture the product requirements and ensure appropriate preventive and corrective measures are put into place;
  • Assist in reducing the occurrence of manufacturing errors;
  • Participate in continuous improvement and problem-solving activities, reviewing documents, drawings, and instructions to ensure conformance to requirements, and participating in cross-functional team meetings;
  • This position requires a hands-on approach combined with a strategic mindset;
  • Adhere to all company policies, including health and safety protocols.
Essential Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field;
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment with integrated power and power conversion products in various stages of prototyping, commercialization, and production;
  • Experience working in engineer-to-order, configure-to-order, or custom product manufacturing;
  • Experience in selecting suppliers and ensuring the suppliers meet all regulatory and company requirements;
  • Certification in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and other problem-solving techniques;
  • Experience with ISO 9001/ISO 14001 Environmental and Quality Management Systems;
  • An appreciation and passion for mitigating the environmental impacts of manufacturing (products, processes, packaging, recycling, energy conservation, etc.);
  • Demonstrated proficiency with quality inspection activities, and the use of appropriate tools;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to present ideas clearly to all levels;
  • Resourceful, innovative, and energetic;
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills;
  • Highly developed attention to detail;
  • Strong problem-solving skills;
  • Strong organizational skills.
Working Conditions:
  • This role is in an office environment, with regular visits to the manufacturing environment;
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship;
  • Ability to travel to international destinations; must possess and maintain a valid passport for international travel.
