Assistant Restaurant Operations Manager

A&W Restaurants Inc. is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Manager to oversee the daily operations of our restaurant. This is a permanent full-time position that offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
Compensation: The annual salary for this role is $47,750, which may vary based on experience and completion of in-house training. The base salary starts at $42,000, with the potential for a quarterly bonus of 7.5% of the salary.
Benefits: Employees will receive a comprehensive medical and dental benefits package, which includes coverage for pharmaceuticals, hospital care, paramedical services, medical equipment, travel, vision care, long-term disability, and life insurance options. Additionally, there is an optional Group RRSP available.
ROLE:
The Assistant Manager collaborates closely with the Restaurant Manager to supervise all aspects of restaurant operations. This role is essential in ensuring that the restaurant adheres to A&W standards, as well as provincial workplace safety and health regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Management:
- Ensure high-quality service, speed of service, and cost control through effective management practices.
- Maintain A&W standards and conduct regular performance evaluations to identify areas for improvement.
- Develop staff schedules and assign shift responsibilities.
- Implement climate goals and ensure they are practiced consistently.
Human Resources:
- Participate in the recruitment and hiring of hourly staff, and assist in hiring decisions for supervisory roles.
- Train and develop staff, address performance issues, and manage terminations when necessary.
- Lead team meetings and foster a safe and motivating work environment.
- Document critical incidents and communicate them to relevant parties.
- Conduct monthly health and safety meetings and ensure compliance through regular restaurant walkthroughs.
Financial Management:
- Oversee daily, weekly, and periodic accounting tasks.
- Manage inventory control, ordering processes, and conduct weekly inventory counts.
- Apply principles of cash and food cost management effectively.
Customer Service:
- Ensure cleanliness standards and safe food handling practices are consistently met.
- Deliver high levels of service to guests through efficient preparation and staff positioning.
- Assist the Manager with local marketing initiatives.
- Address customer complaints and manage service recovery efforts.
- Ensure staff appearance meets company standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2-3 years of experience in a supervisory role within the restaurant industry.
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven leadership capabilities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of all restaurant positions and operations.
- Ability to manage administrative tasks and accounting functions.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to lead productive meetings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Capability to perform some heavy lifting as required.
