Job Summary:
The Bus Monitor is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students with exceptional needs. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist exceptional students with daily activities, such as entering and exiting the bus, and operating special equipment.
- Lift and place students comfortably as needed, and seat them in their assigned location.
- Monitor students' behavior and intervene when necessary to prevent conflicts.
- Report any problems or concerns to the designated authority.
- Learn and remember the bus route, and observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Assist in keeping the assigned bus clean, and check-in and check-out as directed.
- Allow assigned students to board and exit only at authorized stops, and enforce regulations against smoking and eating on buses.
- Complete required reports accurately and on time, and participate in appropriate training and meetings.
Requirements:
- Education and/or experience that demonstrates the qualifications to perform the job satisfactorily.
- Wheelchair training for the handicapped buses.
- Reports to the Director of Transportation.
Working Conditions:
10-month year working as needed.
