About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Early Childhood Assistant to join our team at Caterpillars Child Care. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of our young learners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development: Collaborate with our early childhood educators to design and implement engaging child-care programs that cater to the diverse needs of our children.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure the daycare equipment is well-maintained and safe for use by our children.
  • Support to Educators: Assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
  • Record Keeping: Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in maintaining accurate records of children's progress.
  • Engagement and Guidance: Engage children in activities such as storytelling, teaching songs, and preparing crafts, while guiding them in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits.
  • Observations and Progress Reports: Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors, and discuss their progress and problems at staff meetings.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children, and plan and maintain a safe and healthy environment that protects the well-being of our children.
Requirements
  • Certifications and Training: Possess certifications in Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR, and a First Aid Certificate.
  • Security and Safety: Have a clean criminal record check.
  • Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Be able to perform repetitive tasks, work in a physically demanding environment, and have attention to detail.
  • Personal Suitability: Demonstrate punctuality, flexibility, reliability, and a team player attitude, with creativity and the ability to multitask.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: Previous experience in a child care setting is an asset.
  • Support for Diversity and Inclusion: Provide awareness training to employees to create a welcoming work environment for persons with disabilities, newcomers and refugees, youth, Veterans, Indigenous people, and visible minorities.
