We are currently seeking Kitchen Assistants to be part of our dedicated Fall Staff Team.

Reporting to the Food Service Manager, Kitchen Assistants play a vital role in maintaining health and safety standards in our kitchen and dining areas, as well as assisting with food preparation and service. This position also involves supporting our recycling and compost initiatives and engaging in kitchen-based programs such as themed meals and group baking activities. Throughout your time with Campfire Circle, you will enhance your skills in problem-solving, time management, teamwork, adaptability, kitchen equipment operation, customer service, and sanitation procedures while working alongside a team of passionate colleagues and volunteers.

TERM AND COMPENSATION

Rate: $17.00/hour

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation & Service:

  • Efficiently organize and store clean equipment, dishes, and utensils in designated areas.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure dishware is ready for service.
  • Clean all kitchen wares, including pots, pans, flatware, and glasses, either by hand or using a dishwasher.
  • Transport dishwashing supplies and equipment to the work area as needed.
  • Stock serving stations and storage areas with necessary dishes and utensils.
  • Assist in the preparation of themed meals and food-related programs.
  • Ensure effective food utilization to minimize waste while meeting demand.
  • Adhere to proper food storage and disposal policies in compliance with health and safety standards.

Health & Safety:

  • Report any equipment issues or safety concerns to the Food Service Manager.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations and maintain accurate records.
  • Implement allergy control procedures as necessary.
  • Ensure a safe working environment at all times.

Work Environment:

  • Foster positive relationships with staff and volunteers to maintain a productive work atmosphere.
  • Uphold a respectful and safe environment for all team members.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Criteria:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a food service role.
  • Clear police reference check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Reliable transportation to the work site.

Advantageous Criteria:

  • Valid G2 or G class driver's license.
  • Experience with therapeutic diets and food allergies.
  • Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Background in camp environments.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Option to live on-site during shifts or commute daily.
  • Non-smoker due to the population served.
  • Regular exposure to hot and cold temperatures and potential hazards.
