We are seeking a skilled Mental Health Nurse to be part of our dedicated team at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).
This position is for a Registered Psychiatric Nurse or Registered Nurse who will contribute to the Crisis Home Venture Expansion Team.
Responsibilities of the Mental Health Nurse include:
Deliver tailored nursing care and brokerage services to clients facing severe and persistent mental health challenges, concurrent disorders, or dementia, ensuring comprehensive clinical practice and client-centered rehabilitation. Improve the quality of life for clients and their families. Conduct thorough physical and psychosocial rehabilitation assessments. Collaborate with healthcare professionals and family members to create, implement, assess, and adjust individualized strength-based treatment plans. Build and maintain therapeutic relationships grounded in respect. Administer prescribed medications, monitor client reactions, and provide ongoing education to clients and families regarding daily living activities, medication use, side effects, and lifestyle integration. Maintain accurate client records in accordance with established standards. Engage in team meetings, contribute to team planning, and participate in quality improvement initiatives while keeping your knowledge current.Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Knowledge & Skills
Understanding of client and family-centered recovery models in mental health. Familiarity with concurrent disorders. Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation techniques. Awareness of the Mental Health Act regarding client and staff rights and responsibilities. Insight into community, social, and mental health resources. Ability to recognize emotional, social, or environmental barriers and address stigma. Competence in managing conflict and aggressive behavior, utilizing non-violent crisis intervention techniques. Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written, with clients, families, team members, and community agencies. Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices. Proven ability in nursing practices related to behavioral assessment and assisting clients in enhancing their coping strategies. Experience in leading and co-leading group sessions. Capability to develop and implement care plans effectively. Skill in assessing client responses to care and responding appropriately. Flexibility to adapt to unexpected situations, solve problems, and prioritize tasks. Experience in creating and delivering educational programs and materials for clients and families based on educational principles and best practices. Proven ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team. Ability to counsel and educate clients and their families. Experience in mentoring new staff and students. Demonstrated leadership through initiative and independence. Proficiency in clinical techniques and the use of relevant equipment. Competence in CPR techniques. Physical capability to perform the duties required for this position. Basic computer skills to operate client care information systems and utilize word processing, spreadsheet, internet, and email software.Additional Information
