Job Title: Psychiatric Assessment Nurse — Emergency Care Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Psychiatric Assessment Nurse to join our team at St. Paul's Hospital. As a Psychiatric Assessment Nurse, you will be responsible for assessing and stabilizing patients with mental health and substance use issues in our Acute Behavioural Stabilization Unit (ABSU).

About the Role:

As a Psychiatric Assessment Nurse, you will work closely with our interdisciplinary team to provide culturally safe and trauma-informed care to patients. You will be responsible for conducting assessments, providing crisis intervention, and stabilizing patients. You will also work with our Emergency Clinical Nurse Leader, Mental Health Program, and Interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care and flow.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments and provide crisis intervention to patients with mental health and substance use issues
  • Work closely with our interdisciplinary team to provide culturally safe and trauma-informed care
  • Collaborate with our Emergency Clinical Nurse Leader, Mental Health Program, and Interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care and flow
  • Provide education and support to patients and families

Requirements:

  • Registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant
  • Qualifications required of staff nurse in clinical area, plus three years of recent related experience in clinical specialty
  • Ability to supervise and lead a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to apply decision-making and analytical skills
