Position Summary:

The Counsel for Intake and Resolution at the Law Society of Ontario plays a crucial role in evaluating complaints, performing risk evaluations, gathering necessary documentation, and addressing regulatory matters within the Regulatory Division. This position demands a comprehensive understanding of legal principles, procedural frameworks, and the capability to engage effectively with both complainants and licensees. The ideal candidate will possess a legal background, ideally with experience in administrative law, and demonstrate strong analytical and communication abilities.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and current membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Experience or training in Alternative Dispute Resolution or Mediation is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in private legal practice or within a regulatory body or governmental setting.
  • Thorough understanding of the Law Society's objectives, services, regulations, and policies.
  • Exceptional analytical capabilities and proficiency in computer applications.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish standards, protocols, and performance benchmarks for the Intake and Resolution unit.
  • Assess and analyze risks for incoming cases, prepare relevant documentation, and articulate regulatory concerns.
  • Engage with complainants and licensees to collect essential information.
  • Coordinate and oversee collaboration with other departments within the Regulatory Division.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Collaborate closely with Intake and Resolution Officers, legal assistants, and other personnel to ensure thorough and consistent reviews of regulatory files.
  • Serve as a legal resource to foster knowledge sharing and professional development among team members.

Work Environment:

This role operates under a hybrid work model, alternating between remote and office settings based on departmental needs and responsibilities.
