Energy Efficiency Consultant

POSITION OVERVIEW
This role involves providing technical expertise and project management related to energy assessments and building upgrades. The consultant will guide non-profit housing organizations, primarily in the Lower Mainland, through various funding initiatives from Provincial (BC Housing, Clean BC), Utility, and Federal sources, including support for Low-Carbon Electrification measures. This position plays a crucial role in enhancing and sustaining the non-profit housing sector.
Core Responsibilities
Program and Service Assistance:
- Evaluate non-profit facilities
- Collect and assess energy data to deliver insights and analyses to partnered engineers, non-profit housing organizations, and other stakeholders
- Ensure quality control, troubleshoot issues, and provide follow-up support as necessary
- Facilitate data integration into Energy Star Portfolio Manager and BCNPHA databases
- Participate in sector-wide building evaluation initiatives
- Analyze information for business case development, retrofit cost estimates, and project viability assessments
- Perform Energy Assessments
- Visit sites or conduct virtual assessments to gather building system data, identify energy-saving opportunities, and compile reports
- Manage outreach and site visit logistics across the province, including scheduling appointments, arranging accommodations, travel, and expense reporting
- Mentor non-profits on building upgrade initiatives
- Oversee retrofit projects for non-profit organizations, collaborating with staff, board members, consultants, contractors, utility providers, and various funding bodies
- Offer technical guidance to non-profit housing providers in identifying, planning, and executing capital and energy efficiency upgrades, especially focusing on potential low-carbon electrification (LCE) projects
Data Management Responsibilities:
- Assist in identifying and pursuing new opportunities to enhance BCNPHA databases with relevant data
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience, and Skills
- Strong understanding of energy analysis, energy conservation strategies, building structures, and energy systems is essential
- Familiarity with building control systems, building envelope design, low-carbon electrification, and rebate programs from Federal or BC sources is highly desirable
- Post-secondary education in a related field is required
- A graduate degree, such as a Master's in sustainability and planning, BCIT SEMAC certificate, UBC Masters in Clean Energy, or Douglas BERM certificate, would be advantageous
- Previous experience in energy benchmarking is a plus
- Knowledge of non-profit organizations and their operations is beneficial
- Ability to collect, analyze, and synthesize complex information effectively
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, both independently and in collaborative settings
- Adaptability to changing circumstances; effectively communicates updates and progress while addressing challenges resourcefully
- Identifies opportunities for process and quality improvements, developing innovative approaches and solutions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ensuring timely and appropriate communication with staff and partners
- Proficient in computer applications (MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database management
- High proficiency in creating presentations and visually representing data
- A valid driver's license is required
