Job Summary

The Workforce Development Supervisor, Pipe is a key role within Vancouver Shipyards, responsible for the recruitment, training, and career development of journey persons and apprentices in the pipefitting trade. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the shipyard has a skilled and trained workforce to meet production demands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract and retain top talent in the pipefitting trade.
  • Design and deliver training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of journey persons and apprentices.
  • Collaborate with trade managers and supervisors to identify training needs and develop solutions.
  • Conduct performance management tasks to ensure employees are meeting performance expectations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local unions, subcontractors, and training facilities to support recruitment and training efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with collective agreements and Seaspan's health, safety, environmental, and quality processes.
Requirements
  • Red Seal Certification in Steamfitting/Pipefitting or international equivalent.
  • Recent supervisory experience in a new construction shipyard or marine industry.
  • Minimum 5 years of related trades work experience in a new construction shipyard or marine industry.
  • Proficient knowledge of trade responsibilities specific to heavy manufacturing (welding, metal fabrication, forming, manual and automated burning).
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results.
