About This Role

Michels Canada is seeking a highly skilled Estimator to join our team. As an Estimator, you will play a critical role in the success of our company by providing accurate and timely estimates for power transmission and distribution projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers, adhering to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Support the Estimating Manager, estimating peers, and Supervisor Proposals during the tendering phase of all projects.
  • Assemble accurate, timely, and well-organized estimates and new project setup documents, including bids, construction management, design builds, cost estimates, and control budgets.
  • Analyze drawings and specifications to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Create and issue request for quotes or subcontractor proposal requests documents and analyze responses for the highest-ranking submission.
  • Attend site walkthroughs and project proposal site meetings, review and confirm geotechnical conditions, draft risk matrix, and complete RFI's required for proposal response.
  • Assist in creating preliminary budgets for all successful tender projects and any change order pricing.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience estimating overhead or underground power transmission & distribution, and substation projects in Canada.
  • A post-secondary degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, ASCT, Business, or a Journeyman Trade Certification in combination with experience in a related field is an asset.
  • Experience and skilled in negotiating.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven and an acceptable driving record as determined by the DOT Operations Director and Michels Legal Department.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Sharepoint, Bluebeam, and Adobe. Estimating proficiency preferred using HCSS Estimating Software.
  • Organized written communication skills.
  • Experienced in reading plans and specifications for Power Transmission and Distribution projects.
