Job Title: Assistant Chief

Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Chief to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a critical role in supporting the Fire Chief and Deputy Chief in the management of fire operations, emergency response, and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the development and implementation of fire department policies, procedures, and strategic plans.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to fire department personnel, including District Chiefs, Division Chiefs, and other staff members.
  • Assist with the management of fire department budgets, resources, and personnel.
  • Represent the Fire Chief and Deputy Chief at community events, meetings, and other functions as required.
  • Participate in emergency response and incident command activities as needed.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, community groups, and other emergency services organizations.
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Fire Science or Emergency Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in fire/emergency services, with a minimum of 3 years at the District Chief or Division Chief level.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent the Fire Chief and Deputy Chief at various functions.
  • Knowledge of fire department policies, procedures, and strategic plans.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of adaptability and flexibility.
