Position Overview

ROLE SUMMARY

In the capacity of Manufacturing Engineer, you will collaborate with diverse teams to conceptualize, develop, and validate innovative processes essential for both existing and new products, guiding them from inception to market launch. You will establish yourself as a subject matter expert and mentor for emerging talent. Your engineering designs will be pivotal in supporting future product development and the strategic manufacturing roadmap.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following tasks represent approximately 80% of your responsibilities. As a dynamic organization, you may encounter various tasks that could evolve or change.

  • Utilize lean process development methodologies, systematic problem-solving techniques, and critical thinking skills to enhance new product-process development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Effectively manage the design and implementation of new processes required for product introductions and modifications.
  • Comprehend and oversee process design specifications, conduct system PFMEAs, and engage in design reviews while employing robust engineering practices such as Design of Experiments (DOE), tolerance stack-ups, and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Collaborate with corporate product design, supply chain, vendors, and manufacturing personnel to define specifications for equipment development.
  • Create Design Verification Plans (DVPs), coordinate testing, and provide hands-on troubleshooting to ensure that process and product specifications are achieved.
  • Offer manufacturing and operational support throughout various product development stages using Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
  • Work closely with the Quality department to resolve any internal and external quality and product concerns.
  • Support cross-functional team members by providing mentorship in your areas of expertise for technical inquiries and solutions in at least one engineering or product domain.
  • Set a standard for excellence in engineering practices by successfully coaching junior engineers during peer and design reviews.
  • Act as a manufacturing innovator, introducing new technologies and solutions to the team through research at trade shows and other facilities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in process development.
  • Expertise in developing manufacturing processes by analyzing product requirements, researching testing methodologies, and consulting with equipment vendors.
  • Proven ability to enhance manufacturing efficiency through workflow analysis, space planning, and equipment layout optimization.
  • Familiarity with 3-D Parametric Solid Modeling (Solid Edge or SolidWorks preferred), Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary manufacturing environment.
  • Significant experience in collaborating with sourcing, quality, and manufacturing teams during process and product development.
  • Demonstrated management skills with both internal and external resources.
  • Experience in equipment specification and design.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying information effectively to a wide audience.
  • Strong strategic development capabilities.
  • Proficient in detailed documentation and reporting.
  • A proactive approach to hands-on work, prototyping, and troubleshooting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to perform tolerance stack-ups, assess process capability, and manage changes accordingly.
  • Experience in developing equipment specifications related to product design.
  • Familiarity with automated systems, robotic applications, and their implementation and programming.
  • Experience in launching complex, multi-step manufacturing solutions.
  • Knowledge of plastic materials (fiberglass composites or similar preferred) and associated manufacturing methods.
  • Experience in predictive engineering and analysis using finite element analysis (FEA), hand calculations, or similar tools (Ansys, Abaqus).
  • Proven track record of managing cross-functional teams and overseeing projects with budgets exceeding $1M from initiation to completion.
  • In-depth knowledge of applied mechanics.
  • Experience in developing programs and systems to support team development (e.g., APQP/PDCA).
  • Experience in fenestration products or building materials is advantageous (doors, windows, wall panels, etc.).
  • Experience in collaborating with intellectual property counsel.
  • Experience working with new product development design and launch teams.
