POSITION SUMMARYThe Financial Controller will play a pivotal role in supporting the VP of Finance in overseeing the accounting and finance team. This position is crucial for managing the financial operations of the organization, which includes generating regular financial reports, maintaining a robust system of accounting records, and implementing comprehensive controls and budgets to mitigate risks. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a meticulous, organized approach to time management. Familiarity with Sage X3 is advantageous. This role will report directly to the VP of Finance and collaborate closely with various departments and senior leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Supervise the accounting department's operations, focusing on accounts payable.
- Ensure the accuracy and validity of accounts payable aging.
- Oversee the management of cash flow, general ledger, trial balance, and chart of accounts.
- Assist in preparing monthly forecasts and annual budgets, working collaboratively across departments to analyze variances. Responsible for data validation and presentation for the VP of Finance.
- Prepare monthly financial packages for presentation to senior management.
- Review and manage various regulatory filings and remittances.
- Maintain and assess the internal control framework related to financial reporting and treasury processes.
- Lead and mentor the financial reporting team.
- Oversee outsourced teams and their functions.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and develop execution plans.
- Manage the year-end audit process and serve as the primary contact for external auditors.
- Support the VP of Finance with various projects as required.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
- 1-2 years of experience in team leadership and development.
- Completion of post-secondary education in accounting or finance.
- Professional designation such as CA, CMA, CGA, or CPA.
- Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor.
- Experience in wholesale or large retail environments is a plus.
