About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Youth Health Centre Coordinator to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a key member of our Healthy Communities Public Health Team, you will work within the Public Health Standards and Protocols and a Health Promoting Schools Approach, guided by the Public Health, Health Promoting Schools Standards.

The successful candidate will provide leadership, informal assessment, service navigation, youth engagement, and support for youth associated with the assigned school facility and its immediate community. You will champion youth health, health equity, and facilitate youth engagement as a component of health-promoting schools.

You will work with youth and foster cooperation and collaboration among school administrators, teachers, SchoolsPlus, guidance, student/youth support workers, primary health care, mental health and addictions, and other community partners to ensure youth have access to support, programs, and services within the school and community that promote health.

The ideal candidate will model and provide safe, equitable, and inclusive youth support and understand the diverse experiences of the school and the surrounding community.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with a Baccalaureate degree in a relevant health care discipline, such as registered nursing, occupational therapy, social work, or nutrition. A minimum of three years' experience in a relevant field is required, with direct working experience with youth being a strong asset.

The successful candidate will be registered/licensed with their regulated health care discipline, college, or association. A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are also required.

We are seeking a candidate who can work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team both within the organization and in the community. The ideal candidate will have the ability to critically assess situations, navigate complex scenarios, and make sound decisions using a non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach in supporting youth.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability and experience in creating opportunities for meaningful youth engagement and fostering youth leadership. They will also have a demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of health, health equity, and the impact on health outcomes for youth, families, and communities.

Experience in the application of public health principles and practices, partnership development, and community development is highly valued. Relevant experience in health promotion strategies in school and community settings is also an asset.

Hours and Compensation

The successful candidate will work 35 hours bi-weekly as a Temporary Part-Time/42% FTE Youth Health Centre Coordinator. The salary is pro-rated to 0.42 FTE, paid over a twelve-month period, contributing to a period of leave over 8 weeks during a pre-determined summer break.

The hourly rate for this position is $41.06. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
