Signal Technician Job Description

Are you a tech enthusiast looking for a challenging career in the Canadian Armed Forces? As a Signal Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing communication systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, diagnosis, modifications, installations, configurations, inspections, and administration for wired and wireless communications systems, voice and data network defence, configuration, and administration.
  • Operate on specialized electronic test equipment and use advanced radio equipment testing instrumentation.
  • Develop specialized skills through formal military and civilian courses and on-the-job training in areas such as counter-radio controlled improvised explosive device equipment operation and maintenance, software and firmware operations and maintenance, including software-defined radios.
Requirements:
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada.
  • Be at least 18 years old (17 years old with parental consent), except for paid education programs or Primary Reserve.
  • Have Grade 10 Academic Math and Science.
Work Environment:

As a Signal Technician, you will work in a variety of environments, including military vehicles and maintenance workshops. You will have the opportunity to develop specialized skills and work on advanced communication systems and equipment.

Training and Development:

You will undergo basic military training and then attend a military training centre for the Basic Military Qualification – Land Course. You will also receive specialized training in signal systems and equipment.
