Position Overview:

The Anishinaabe Language Educator is tasked with imparting knowledge of the Anishinaabe language. This role involves ensuring the delivery of a high-quality language program that adheres to established curriculum guidelines, educational standards, and effective instructional strategies. Additionally, the educator will collaborate with fellow teaching staff to create a curriculum that is rooted in Native culture.

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Certification in Teaching of Native as a Second Language.
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Profound knowledge of Anishinaabe language and cultural practices.
  • Active membership with the Ontario College of Teachers.
  • Proficient in computer applications.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Commitment to the ongoing enhancement of the Elementary Program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with First Nations communities.
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience.
  • Bachelor's degree with relevant teaching credentials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support each student in fostering a positive self-image and a strong connection to their Anishinaabe language and cultural heritage.
  • Promote Native culture, values, and language with sensitivity and sincerity.
  • Prioritize teaching as the primary objective.
  • Participate in team meetings as required.
  • Implement consistent classroom management practices in alignment with school policies.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed during all educational activities.
  • Provide regular updates on student progress to guardians as necessary.
  • Encourage students to achieve their fullest potential by recognizing individual needs and interests.
  • Prepare the classroom for student arrival in a timely manner.
  • Compile student information and progress reports as directed.
  • Develop appropriate learning materials for students engaged in home study or extended absences.
  • Assign homework to reinforce classroom learning.
  • Collaborate with staff to design a curriculum that reflects Native culture and values.
  • Create evaluation strategies that align with learning objectives.
  • Administer assessments during designated testing periods.
  • Prepare lesson plans and outlines as required and submit them for review.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Engage in extracurricular activities as per academic policy.
  • Contribute to Professional Activity Day presentations.
  • Provide mentorship to Co-op Students, student teachers, and teaching assistants as needed.
  • Attend academic staff meetings and other required gatherings.
  • Exhibit flexibility and professionalism when interacting with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Offer constructive feedback on performance evaluations for staff under supervision.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
