Job Summary:

The YMCA of Greater Toronto is seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our buildings and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair building equipment, including HVAC systems, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Respond to work orders and perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our facilities.
  • Ensure the safe and continual operation of pools, whirlpools, saunas, and steam rooms, including related equipment and chemicals.
  • Perform light-duty cleaning, project cleaning, and general cleaning tasks as needed.
  • Ensure the safety of all members, property, and oneself by following established workplace health and safety practices and procedures.
  • Perform building and equipment repairs as necessary, including contacting contractors and providing supervision during repairs.
  • Respond to all emergencies in the facility and report any maintenance issues to the Facility Manager.
  • Provide coverage for center opening and/or closing and respond to requests for assistance during on-call duty periods as required.
  • Assist with materials management related to building supplies, including ordering and replacing materials as necessary.
  • Actively participate in scheduled programs, meetings, and special events.
  • Implement and monitor appropriate policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective member and volunteer participation.
  • Build relationships with members and seek opportunities to share the YMCA story while educating members and guests on the YMCA as a charity.

Requirements:

  • High School education or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of courses offered as part of the Building Operator Certificate an asset; willingness to increase knowledge and skills in this area.
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR level C an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in skilled trades and/or building maintenance, experience and aptitude in multiple areas including electrical, plumbing, operating engineering, pneumatics, mechanical HVAC, and pool filtration/water chemistry.
  • Experience in pool operation an asset; Pool Operator Certificate preferred (certification must be obtained within first three months).
  • WHMIS and related health and safety training an asset.
  • Computer Skills an asset; Computerized facility management applications an asset.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Takes the opportunity to be involved in partnerships and collaborations; team player.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced physically demanding environment.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff, and volunteers.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
