Senior Financial Analyst

Reporting to the Manager of Financial Reporting and Operations, the Senior Financial Analyst plays a pivotal role in ensuring the financial integrity and compliance of the Ministry's operations. This position is responsible for developing and implementing financial policies, procedures, and processes for the Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and processes to ensure compliance with Government of Alberta legislations, financial policies, Treasury Board directives, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), and best practices.
  • Oversee the Ministry's Accounting Officer (AO) functions, including the preparation of the SFO Compliance Report and the management of the compliance review of daily transactions entered into financial systems.
  • Maintain and ensure the accuracy of the Ministry's General Ledger and other sub-ledgers, ensuring data is reliable, complete, and accurate for the Ministry's financial statements and other reporting needs.
  • Participate in the month-end, quarter-end, and annual financial reporting processes and various public disclosure reviews and reporting.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors to support the Ministry's Fraud Risk Assessment and accountability framework.

This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and collaboration skills. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of financial policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as experience working in a fast-paced environment.
