Job Title: Automation Systems Designer

Johnson Electric is seeking a highly skilled Automation Systems Designer to join our team. As an Intermediate Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for analyzing, concepting, and designing production automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop robot and assembly systems, production gauges, and error proofs.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, and materials.
  • Perform engineering calculations for strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, and force.
  • Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards.
  • Review electrical requirements with electrical designers.
  • Review machine operations and sequences with project teams.
  • Select purchase components for mechanical assemblies and create requisitions.
  • Produce working drawings, detail drawings, and bills of materials using SolidWorks.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, and proper machining techniques.
  • Assist the manufacturing team with resolving build, debug, and integration issues.
  • Communicate with customers, technical staff, and vendors for technical information and specifications.
Requirements:
  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years' experience in special purpose equipment and/or automation design.
  • Experience with robotic cells and assembly systems is an asset.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks is required.
  • Working knowledge of common machine shop techniques is an asset.
  • Strong ability to conceptualize and create solutions for complex design requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of pneumatic systems and electrical devices.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capable of giving and taking direction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
