At Delmanor Communities, we believe in the power of meaningful engagement. Our Recreation Therapist for Memory Care plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our Residents through tailored recreational activities.
Core Responsibilities
- Facilitates the design, organization, and execution of recreational programs that cater to the diverse needs of Residents.
- Develops a comprehensive recreation schedule that addresses emotional, psychosocial, spiritual, and physical well-being.
- Ensures a safe, welcoming, and stimulating environment that promotes the overall morale and wellness of Residents.
- Leverages community resources to enrich recreational offerings whenever possible.
- Maintains open lines of communication and fosters strong relationships with Residents, their families, fellow team members, and external partners.
- Records and reports essential observations and attendance for all recreational activities.
- Contributes to the creation of a monthly calendar that features a variety of engaging activities, outings, and entertainment options.
- Engages in professional development through conferences and training sessions.
- Acts as an ambassador for the residence, cultivating partnerships within the broader community.
- Provides assistance to other departments as necessary, including support for special events and marketing initiatives.
- Supports the transportation team during outings, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Adheres to directives from the Recreation Manager and fulfills additional responsibilities as required.
- Complies with relevant provincial regulations and standards.
Qualifications
- A minimum of two years of experience in a recreation department or similar role.
- Experience in a hospitality or healthcare environment, particularly with older adults.
- Proven experience working with individuals diagnosed with Dementia or Alzheimer’s.
- Educational background in leisure and recreation, with a certificate, diploma, or degree preferred.
- Exhibits self-motivation, accountability, problem-solving skills, and leadership capabilities.
