Position Overview

The Eastern Canada District manages a variety of projects, including highways, bridges, mass transit systems, mine site development, hydroelectric facilities, wind-power plants, dams, and industrial operations. Our focus is on serving the construction and mining sectors throughout Eastern Canada.

Responsibilities

The Quality Control Specialist will be tasked with:

  • Ensuring the uniform application of Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) across all operational processes.
  • Collaborating closely with Operations to assess ongoing construction activities.
  • Validating work compliance at critical hold points using detailed checklists.
  • Monitoring checklist application to encourage right-first-time practices within a 48-hour timeframe.
  • Proactively identifying non-conforming work or other quality-related challenges.
  • Issuing Corrective Reports (CRs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) while actively engaging in issue resolution.
  • Overseeing proper material reception and storage, following manufacturer guidelines.
  • Regularly reviewing the ITP Inspection Notification Log to maintain precise records.

In relation to Subcontractors, the Quality Control Specialist will:

  • Assume a quality assurance role in overseeing subcontractors.
  • Conduct periodic audits of subcontractor quality documentation to assess effectiveness.
  • Ensure subcontractors comply with ITP requirements.
  • Verify that subcontractors utilize checklists as outlined in the contract.
  • Request appropriate testing frequency for compaction and concrete assessments.
  • Ensure meticulous recording of all relevant information during testing.

Regarding Suppliers, the Quality Control Specialist will:

  • Collaborate with suppliers to clarify quality expectations.
  • Facilitate Quality Kick-Off meetings with suppliers to outline project Quality Management.
  • Regularly audit suppliers to confirm submission of necessary quality documentation.
  • Actively participate in weekly coordination meetings to address quality-related concerns.
  • Ensure resolution of all quality issues prior to final payment release to suppliers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and/or 3-5+ years of relevant experience in Quality, preferably within a heavy civil and industrial contracting environment or an engineering/quality consultancy.
  • Experience in a project management setting; specific experience in Kiewit-related projects such as mass transit, transportation, power, oil & gas, mining, and heavy industrial sectors would be advantageous.
  • ASQ Audit certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications is required.
  • Strong critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management capabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to quality, safety, ethics, and integrity.
