Position Overview
Reporting to the Plant Finance Manager, you will be instrumental in our financial operations, focusing on the oversight and administration of cost accounting functions. Your primary duties will include the establishment and maintenance of the standard cost system, monitoring inventory levels, and generating reports on inventory, utilizing Sage 300 and Misys. You will collaborate closely with various departments to ensure precise and timely cost analysis and reporting, while also providing essential insights to aid in achieving the company's financial objectives.
In this role, you will manage the standard cost system, conduct cost variance analysis, and oversee the operational budget and forecasts, as well as the monthly financial reports.
By leveraging Sage 300 and Misys Manufacturing System, you will ensure accurate and timely cost analysis and management reporting. You will engage with the Manufacturing, Procurement, and Materials Departments regarding daily operations and cost reporting processes.
Your collaboration with cross-functional teams will be vital in delivering valuable insights that support the company's financial aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
Standard Cost Management
Develop and uphold the standard cost system for all products, encompassing both locally sourced and internationally procured items, while managing the annual budgeted standard cost cycle. Create and maintain the Sage and Misys Item Master and establish the Bill of Material for Finished Goods. Regularly review and update standard costs to reflect shifts in market conditions and manufacturing processes.Inventory Control
Supervise inventory valuation and reconciliation to ensure accuracy. Monitor and maintain inventory reporting to assist in minimizing carrying costs while ensuring seamless production. Manage the Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) system.Cost Analysis
Analyze cost variances and deviations from standard costs, providing insights and recommendations for enhancement. Prepare cost reports and analyses for management, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and process optimization.Budgeting and Forecasting
Collaborate with finance, procurement, and sourcing teams to prepare and manage cost-related budgets and forecasts. Provide accurate financial information for decision-making and financial planning.Compliance and Reporting
Continuously identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in cost accounting and inventory management.Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with purchasing, production, and supply chain teams to ensure alignment and accuracy in cost data. Assist Sales and Logistics teams with invoicing issues. Collaborate with IT to optimize the use of Sage 300 and Misys in cost accounting processes.Compliance and Reporting
Prepare and submit financial reports and statements, focusing on monthly inventory reporting and planned operating costs. Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and regulations.Skills and Qualifications
7-10 years of experience in cost accounting, including 3-5 years at the supervisory or managerial level. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent, with a preference for a major in Cost Accounting. 7-10 years of experience with standard costing using Sage 300/Misys or a similar standard cost and manufacturing inventory reporting system. Experience with multi-currency financial systems. Proven experience in standard costing and working within a manufacturing environment is required. Experience in upgrading, converting, and implementing new manufacturing systems. Familiarity with Bin tracking and RFID automation. Experience managing inventory across multiple physical locations, including third-party logistics in North America, Europe, and Asia. Experience managing annual financial audits and liaising with external auditors. Demonstrated experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing context, preferably adhering to Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or the Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE). Strong knowledge of Bill of Materials and standard cost accounting principles and practices. Proficiency in using Sage 300 and Misys for cost accounting purposes. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective cross-functional collaboration. Comprehensive understanding of internal controls. Attention to detail with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with international procurement and managing costs in multiple currencies. Strong execution and prioritization skills.
