Registered Nurse Practitioner

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our team at The Royal Mental Health Centre. As an RPN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to individuals with serious mental illness and intellectual disabilities living in the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide professional nursing services to clients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
- Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the treatment team, focusing on client-centered care.
- Identify and coordinate services and resources for clients, advocating on their behalf to ensure their entitlements and rights are safeguarded.
- Conduct regular home visits, requiring extensive driving in the catchment area, to provide ongoing support and care.
- Provide assessment and crisis intervention services, utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex situations.
- Participate in the development and delivery of educational programs for clients, families, and service providers, promoting health and wellness.
- Provide necessary activities of daily living support within the framework of the FACT DD model, based on client need.
- Administer medication safely and effectively, adhering to Royal policy and procedure.
- Recognize and intervene in emergent health problems, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for clients and staff.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of a recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
- Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
- Experience working with individuals with Dual Diagnosis (Intellectual Disability and Psychiatric Illness) is required.
- Community Mental Health experience is preferred.
- Ability to apply critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, and prioritization skills to nursing duties.
- Knowledge of major mental illness from a bio-psychosocial perspective and experience in applying psychosocial principles of rehabilitation and case management.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as a member of a professional inter-disciplinary team.
- Maintain workload measurement and data collection as required, inputting into the workload measurement system on a regular basis.
- WHMIS update within the last 12 months.
- CPR Certification within the last 12 months.
- Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training is preferred.
- Basic computer skills are required.
- Access to a reliable vehicle for day-to-day operations of the team.
- Valid G License.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension, and written expression. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
Salary Range: $35.36 to $37.05 per hour
