Job Title: Registered Practical Nurse

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our team at The Royal Mental Health Centre. As an RPN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to individuals with serious mental illness and intellectual disabilities living in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional nursing services to clients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the treatment team, focusing on client-centered care.
  • Identify and coordinate services and resources for clients, advocating on their behalf to ensure their entitlements and rights are safeguarded.
  • Conduct regular home visits, requiring extensive driving in the catchment area, to provide ongoing support and care.
  • Provide assessment and crisis intervention services, utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex situations.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of educational programs for clients, families, and service providers, promoting health and wellness.
  • Provide necessary activities of daily living support within the framework of the FACT DD model, based on client need.
  • Administer medication safely and effectively, adhering to Royal policy and procedure.
  • Recognize and intervene in emergent health problems, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for clients and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
  • Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
  • Experience working with individuals with Dual Diagnosis (Intellectual Disability and Psychiatric Illness) is required.
  • Community Mental Health experience is preferred.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, and prioritization skills to nursing duties.
  • Knowledge of major mental illness from a bio-psychosocial perspective and experience in applying psychosocial principles of rehabilitation and case management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as a member of a professional inter-disciplinary team.
  • Maintain workload measurement and data collection as required, inputting into the workload measurement system on a regular basis.
  • WHMIS update within the last 12 months.
  • CPR Certification within the last 12 months.
  • Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle for day-to-day operations of the team.
  • Valid G License.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension, and written expression. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.

Salary Range: $35.36 to $37.05 per hour
