Position Overview: As a member of the Kingston Penitentiary Tours team, you will play a vital role in delivering engaging historical experiences to visitors from diverse backgrounds.

Role: KINGSTON PENITENTIARY TOURS / RETAIL / ADMISSIONS (student)

Work Schedule: Flexible hours, with a maximum of 36.25 hours per week, including weekends, holidays, evenings, and early mornings.

Compensation: $17.40 per hour

Employment Duration: Seasonal employment from April to September and/or September to November.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Represent one of Kingston's premier tourism attractions.
  • Welcome guests, answer questions, provide information about site programming, and assist with reservations and waivers.
  • Conduct guided historical tours, ensuring a memorable and safe experience for all visitors.
  • Promote and sell select retail merchandise.
  • Perform various maintenance tasks, including cleaning and upkeep of the site and its facilities.
  • Prioritize safety and report any unsafe conditions to your supervisor.
  • Uphold the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion in all interactions.
Qualifications:

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to learn and convey historical information effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Capability to manage groups of visitors, ensuring organized and timely tours.
  • Experience with cash handling and operating a cash register.
  • Strong initiative and responsibility in both independent and team settings.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols to maintain a secure environment for all.

Student Eligibility: Candidates must be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from a secondary or post-secondary institution.
