Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in tax consulting projects, including corporate reorganizations, estate freezes, estate litigation, and general tax planning.
  • Conduct research and analysis on complex tax topics.
  • Develop tax models to demonstrate potential tax savings from proposed strategies.
  • Prepare and review tax compliance and election forms resulting from tax planning initiatives.
  • Assist in the review of legal documents from a tax perspective to facilitate proposed reorganizations.
  • Draft special forms such as applications for the Voluntary Disclosure Program and requests for clearance certificates.
  • Provide training and support to the compliance department on tax-related matters.
  • Communicate research findings professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Collaborate with the Canada Revenue Agency and relevant provincial ministries on client matters.
  • Contribute to the creation of bi-weekly tax articles for internal and external distribution.
  • Record daily timesheets and expenses in CCH.
  • Manage assigned tasks effectively.
  • Achieve billable target hours.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to meet various client service needs.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) designation.
  • Completion or near completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course.
  • 3-5 years of experience in public accounting with a focus on tax, including preparation and review of personal, corporate, and trust returns, estate tax planning, corporate reorganizations, and dispute resolution.
  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting the Income Tax Act and relevant case law.
  • Solid technical foundation in Canadian income tax with experience in tax research and memo writing.
  • Proven understanding of complex tax concepts and effective application of tax knowledge to client scenarios.
  • Proficient in CCH (Tax Prep), CaseWare, and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Responsive to client needs, with the ability to build and maintain effective client relationships.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Capable of staying organized and meeting tight deadlines.
