**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Solicit and analyze requests for quotes, renewals, and policy changes, and recommend innovative solutions
  • Support our brokers regarding underwriting and rating policies
  • Develop long-term and meaningful relationships with our broker partners by providing legendary service
  • Participate in broker visits, industry functions, and marketing events in support of broker relationship development
  • Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company
  • Provide technical advice, recommendations, and mentoring to team members
  • Provide creative solutions on how to improve the department and increase efficiencies
  • Review and analyze policy coverages and claims experience
  • Ensure underwriting files are well documented and compliant with corporate guidelines
  • Underwrite a profitable book of new and renewal business in accordance with corporate guidelines
  • Have a thorough knowledge of current market wordings
  • Interpret loss control reports and develop internal capacity

**Requirements:**

  • Minimum 5 years of Insurance industry experience, including a minimum of 3 years of Commercial P&C Underwriting experience
  • Care for people by being supportive, providing candid feedback, and recognizing performance
  • Maintain an expert and current understanding of all relevant Commercial Underwriting Guidelines
  • Demonstrate the ability to handle complex risks
  • Work collaboratively with other Underwriters on the team to develop ownership of a book of regional business
  • Awareness of local community conditions and insurance issues
  • Superior organization and demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Exemplary sales, negotiation, and customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Strong negotiating skills and business savvy
  • Demonstrate a can-do attitude and an outside-the-box mindset
  • Initiative and ability to work under pressure
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer tools
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation preferred
  • No Canadian work experience required, but must be eligible to work in Canada
