Reports To : Vice President, Legal and Corporate Secretary

Position Overview : The Senior Legal Counsel is tasked with supporting the Legal Department in areas concerning real estate, corporate and commercial transactions, as well as ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This role includes oversight of one subordinate.

Key Responsibilities :

Offer legal guidance to CAPREIT and its subsidiaries Assist the Vice President, Legal and Corporate Secretary in managing the legal operations and affairs of CAPREIT and its subsidiaries Analyze and draft contracts to facilitate the Operations team, operational support functions, and corporate services departments Collaborate with the Operations team, operational support functions, and corporate services departments to create template agreements, notices, releases, and other standard documents while addressing inquiries on an as-needed basis Partner with the Development team on projects, expropriations, easements, and other municipal, land-use planning, and development-related issues Aid in the management of disputes and litigation claims Provide counsel on enterprise-wide initiatives Assist in the preparation of reports and memoranda regarding legal matters Engage with external legal counsel as necessary Perform additional duties as required

Skills & Qualifications:

Juris Doctor degree from an accredited Canadian law school Minimum of 4 years of post-call experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel with expertise in corporate, commercial, and real estate law Ability to identify legal issues, stay updated on legislative changes and legal developments, and maintain strong relationships with key external counsel and firms Exceptional organizational skills Keen attention to detail Proficient written and verbal communication abilities

Additional Qualifications:

Licensed attorney in Ontario with over 4 years of post-call experience Strong, adaptable, and flexible team collaborator Proficiency in French and/or Dutch is considered an asset
