Key Responsibilities:
  • Season Planning: Develop comprehensive activity plans for the curling season, including weekly training sessions and long-term objectives.
  • Communication: Maintain regular contact with assistant coaches, volunteers, parents, and athletes to foster a collaborative atmosphere.
  • Practice Facilitation: Conduct training sessions with a strong emphasis on athlete safety and well-being.
  • Registration Oversight: Ensure all athletes and volunteers are properly registered for participation.
  • Meeting Attendance: Participate in scheduled regional and provincial coaching meetings to stay updated on best practices.
  • Competition Preparation: Dedicate time to prepare athletes for competitions and attend events to support their performance.
  • Inventory Management: Submit necessary documentation regarding club property and travel requests in a timely manner.
  • Program Enrollment: Regularly update athlete and coach enrollments in the management portal throughout the season.
  • Event Participation: Engage in regional and provincial events, including meetings and fundraising activities.
  • Emergency Planning: Ensure that an Emergency Action Plan is established and communicated.
  • Staff Communication: Maintain ongoing communication with Volunteer Manitoba staff and regional leadership.
Qualifications:
  • Experience and knowledge in curling.
  • Commitment to adhere to the Coaches Code of Conduct.
  • Understanding of the organization's constitution and principles.
  • Alignment with the mission of Volunteer Manitoba.
  • Minimum age requirement of 18 years.
  • Ability to instruct and mentor others in sport skills.
  • Exhibit fair play and socially appropriate behavior.
  • Willingness to complete required coaching courses within two years.
  • Knowledge of ethical decision-making in sports.
  • Participation in annual coaches' meetings to review policies.
  • Encouragement of assistant coaches and volunteers to pursue certification.
  • Engagement in program visits with staff.
  • Support athletes in achieving their personal goals.
  • Opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Networking and building connections within the community.
  • Participation in recognition events.
  • Experience the fulfillment of working with athletes.
Commitment:

The expected time commitment is one to two sessions per week, lasting 1 to 2.5 hours, with occasional weekend competitions.

A criminal record check is required, with costs covered by the organization.
