The University of Saskatchewan is seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our Facilities team. As a Carpenter, you will be responsible for supporting the operation and maintenance of architectural and building systems, preserving campus assets and cultural heritage.
Key Responsibilities- Perform maintenance, repair, and installation of architectural and structural systems and building elements.
- Inspect structures and structural elements for damages, troubles, and failures.
- Determine material lists and work plans for the execution of work within and related to the carpentry function.
- Abide by all standard carpentry practices and guidelines to ensure the safety of other workers and the public.
- Contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of preventative maintenance routines to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of buildings and systems.
- Train and mentor colleagues, providing guidance on best practices and technical skill development.
- Collaborate with other members of the Facilities team to coordinate work activities, prioritize tasks, and enhance operations.
- Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and advancements in technology, and recommend improvements as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including equipment service histories, parts inventory, and maintenance schedules.
- Respond to emergency service calls and perform repairs as needed.
- Current valid Red Seal Journeyperson Certificate in the Carpentry trade as recognized by the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission.
- Three to five years of experience as a Journeyperson Carpenter working in the industrial or commercial maintenance and construction fields.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, use various hand and power tools, and demonstrate well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
- Sound troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills to identify maintenance and reliability trends, proactively resolve potential problems, and propose recommendations for improvements.
- Physical ability to perform rigorous manual labor tasks that regularly involves heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling, and prolonged standing.
