Position Overview

Are you enthusiastic about advancing your nursing career? We are looking for a dedicated Registered Nurse who is passionate about providing exceptional patient care to join our team in the Operating Room department at Northern Health Authority.

Under the supervision of the Manager of Perioperative Services, the staff nurse will engage in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care and nursing practice activities, all while adhering to quality management principles and the mission of Northern Health Authority.

This role is shaped by the needs of the healthcare facility, a specific patient/family demographic, organizational expectations, and the objectives for professional nursing practice.


AORN Perioperative Nursing Program Overview
Northern Health Regional Operating Room Education (RORE)

The AORN Periop-101 course is a comprehensive blended learning program designed to provide standardized education on the essential skills of perioperative nursing.

This program consists of a 7-week course that combines online learning with a practicum, allowing participants to consolidate their skills under the guidance of a preceptor.

The course and practicum will equip nurses to deliver safe and competent perioperative nursing care at an entry-level.

  • There are 12 training positions available for this program
  • Northern Health provides support for placement and funding for educational expenses, including tuition, textbooks, and travel for clinical placements as necessary
  • Participants should be prepared to commit to a 6 – 12 month educational journey, which includes both online and in-person components
  • Additional study time outside of scheduled hours may be required to successfully complete the program
  • Flexibility for practicum assignments is essential
  • Applicants must complete the educational program before assuming duties in the department
  • Upon successful completion of the program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular nursing position relevant to the training
  • Qualified candidates will be prioritized for specialty roles. If no qualified candidates are available, training opportunities will be extended to unqualified applicants, with training provided
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, Days - 08:00 to 16:00

Qualifications

  • Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
Skills and Competencies:

  • Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with healthcare team members.
  • Ability to engage positively with patients' families and friends.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
