Position Overview:

This role requires sound judgment and effective decision-making skills. The individual will oversee daily operations, providing leadership and direction to the facility operations team in alignment with the objectives set by the Facility Operations Supervisor. The focus will be on ensuring that all activities related to the operation and maintenance of recreation facilities are executed efficiently and safely. Collaboration with the Supervisor and Fleet and Facilities department is essential to manage preventative maintenance, inspections, contractor oversight, and compliance with safety regulations, thereby supporting the City's Asset Management program. This position encompasses the management of various facilities, including the Agrena, Border Paving Athletic Center (BPAC), Fuhr Sports Park, Jubilee Spray Park, and others as designated.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership, Supervision, and Training:
- Provide training and oversight to all recreation facility staff to ensure high standards of customer service and respectful environments.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant City policies and procedures.
- Maintain compliance with OH&S, environmental regulations, and industry standards.
- Make informed decisions and lead in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Mentor and guide staff in the safe and efficient operation of facilities, seeking expertise when necessary.
- Deliver constructive feedback and performance updates to the Supervisor.
- Participate in the 'on call' rotation for emergencies and support on operational issues.
Task Coordination and Staff Scheduling:
- Develop and manage the scheduling of Recreation Facility Operations Staff, taking into account bookings, events, maintenance needs, and budgetary constraints.
- Assign tasks to personnel to ensure the fulfillment of the City's core services and policies.
- Monitor productivity and quality of work while minimizing disruption to public use of facilities.
Safety and Risk Management:
- Exhibit a thorough understanding of OHS legislation and the City's safety protocols.
- Foster a safe and positive work environment.
- Engage staff in the City's Safety Management Program, ensuring that safety practices and training are standardized.
Quality Customer Experience:
- Ensure the provision of quality amenities through effective staff training and monitoring.
- Address customer inquiries or complaints with sensitivity and professionalism.
- Escalate issues to the appropriate personnel for further resolution as needed.
Administration & Finance:
- Ensure that all necessary documentation, including facility and safety inspection reports, is completed accurately by staff.
Facility Operations:
- Demonstrate expertise in the operations of assigned facilities, including mechanical and equipment management.
- Collaborate with Fleet and Facilities and contractors to ensure optimal facility operation and maintenance.
- Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and recommend repairs to the Supervisor as needed.

Qualifications:

- Minimum Grade 12 education.
- Completion of the Recreation Facility Management Certificate.
- At least 5 years of experience in facility operations.
- Minimum 2 years in a leadership capacity, preferably in a unionized environment.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Standard First Aid (C) certification.
- Alberta Class 3Q operator license (optional).
- 3-5 years of experience in a Recreation Facilities Setting, with experience in refrigeration and ice maintenance considered an asset.
