Key Responsibilities- Provide intellectual direction for research projects, ensuring alignment with industry partner goals and objectives.
- Utilize technical expertise in design and manufacturing to develop concepts, design, manufacture, integrate, and test prototyped solutions.
- Provide subject matter expertise for applied research projects, ensuring the delivery of practical and industrial solutions.
- Collaborate with college faculty, staff, and industry partners to execute applied research projects.
- Manage interdisciplinary research activities, integrating different activities into a cohesive deliverable.
- Support funding and project proposal development, ensuring alignment with college and industry partner goals.
- Present project scopes, deliverables, and metrics to stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Provide leadership for applied research projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality results.
- Prepare and implement dissemination activities, including the preparation of materials and final reports.
- Assist college staff and students with the development and completion of final reports and the collection of metrics.
- Assist with follow-up activities with industry clients or funders, ensuring effective project management.
- Presents findings at internal and external events, including conferences and seminars.
- Assists with the development of case studies, highlighting project successes and lessons learned.
- Identifies human resource needs and interviews/hires student research assistants, ensuring the effective management of research teams.
- Supervises student researchers and research assistants/associates, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Successful completion of a 4-year degree program in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng) is required.
- Certificates in AI, Machine Learning, and Data Analysis will be an asset.
- Minimum nine years of experience in the field of automation and mechatronics, with at least 5 years of experience executing and leading industry-led research projects.
- Demonstrated experience using Solidworks, AutoCAD, and Industrial Programming platforms.
- Demonstrated experience in Automation and Mechatronics.
- Demonstrated research and development skills and project delivery abilities, preferably with experience carrying out research projects from concept to commercialization.
- Proven ability to manage a research team.
- Superior organizational and time management skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a variety of partners.
- Intermediate level computer skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
