Underwriter - Broker Services Specialist

Cowan Insurance Group is seeking a highly skilled Underwriter to join our Broker Services Team. As an Underwriter, you will play a critical role in underwriting personal and commercial accounts, including marine pleasure craft, self-storage, and high-risk residential programs. You will be responsible for providing quotes on new business, processing renewals, policy changes, and cancellations, while ensuring compliance with guidelines and rules applicable to the programs.
Key Responsibilities- Underwrite personal and commercial accounts, including marine pleasure craft, self-storage, and high-risk residential programs.
- Provide quotes on new business, process renewals, policy changes, and cancellations.
- Review coverages, products, and trends to aid in the development of products and offerings.
- Develop relationships with broker networks and assist management in implementing new programs, systems, and procedures.
- Involved in process and product improvement and documentation, program audits, annual program reviews, carrier relationship building, systems changes, and claims.
- RIBO license or ability to obtain.
- Working towards CIP designation an asset.
- Previous underwriting experience in PI or CI required.
- Knowledge of various underwriting tools an asset such as BVS, etc.
- Lloyds coverholder processes and bordereaux experience an asset.
- Knowledge of boats and marine coverage would be an asset (either power or sail).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- High level of self-motivation with ability to perform effectively independently.
- Attention to detail with high organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to analyze potential areas of improvement, efficiencies, and coverage/product opportunities.
- Product and policy Analysis capabilities.
- Attention to detail and ability to process large volume of transactions accurately.
- Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS office products.
